Hungry Mothers invite public to suggest names for mascot

The Marion Hungry Mothers are putting out a call this week for fans to help name their new "mama bear" mascot.

The mascot, which will make its first public appearances next month, is a baseball-loving bear character that appears ready to stand in the batter's box and hit a few home runs like our players. The new collegiate wood-bat team, the Hungry Mothers, announced their team name earlier this year and is getting ready for their first season to begin in late May.

The ball club invites the public to suggest names for the bear from now until Friday, May 2, at 3 pm at hungrymothersbaseball.com/mascot. Then, the team will put finalists they pick from those suggestions up for an online vote for fans to select at the team’s social media pages. If your name suggestion gets picked as the eventual winner, they'll give you four tickets to a Marion Hungry Mothers home game and have you throw out a first pitch. The first fan to suggest each name idea is eligible.

The mascot will roam foul territory at each of the Hungry Mothers home games this summer at Hurricane Stadium in Marion. The home opener for the team will be Memorial Day, May 26, and will go through late July.
