About Us
The Marion Hungry Mothers are a collegiate wood-bat baseball team that begin their second season in 2026!
Making their home at a former minor league baseball facility (Hurricane Stadium in Marion, Virginia) the team will play a schedule of 30 games, with more than 20 of those games at home, during the summer and compete as part of the Blue Ridge League with Carolina Disco Turkeys, Davie Crocketts, Queen City Corndogs and others.
What are HUNGRY MOTHERS games like?
We offer America's pastime, concessions, and affordable, family-friendly entertainment much like going to a Salem Red Sox or Bristol Pirates (RIP) game.
At the friendly confines of Hurricane Stadium, we'll have seating for thousands with a new set of bleachers behind home plate, the football grandstand in right field and limited table seating on the third base side. Fans can also bring along lawn chairs from home for our lawn areas. We'll have the concession stand open at all of our home games. No alcoholic beverages will be sold at games this season due to the stadium being on a school campus.
What is a HUNGRY MOTHER?
If you’re from Marion, you already know the Hungry Mother story.
The name is famously lent to Hungry Mother State Park, a popular destination in Smyth County. It derives from a story of a pioneer woman and her child, who according to legend, were both captured by a Native American tribe and taken to their mountain camp. The woman, Molly Marley, and her child escaped. The mother didn't make it back for help, but the child did and the only words they could say was "Hungry Mother."
We chose to bring a Hungry Mother alive as a ferocious mother bear having come back suddenly from a long hibernation, just like summer baseball has now returned to this area in the shape of our new team.
